Toronto residential street of brick houses and a TTC streetcar, where rent due on the first drives most short loans in the city
What this site does

Built for a city where rent is the recurring gap

Loans Toronto is a free loan connection service and does not lend. The city runs on rent due the first, paycheques that land on different days, and a TTC ride between the two. We explain the Ontario Payday Loans Act, compare a payday loan with an installment loan in plain numbers, and send your application to licensed lenders that fund by e-transfer, from Etobicoke to East York.

  • Payday and installment, side by side A short gap before the fifteenth and a first and last deposit on a new lease call for different loans. The two cost tables sit together so you can see which one fits.
  • Paid on three different clocks Downtown offices pay semi monthly, kitchens on King West pay out tips weekly, and the Pearson and 401 warehouses run biweekly. The pages follow those cycles, not a generic calendar.
  • From Mississauga to Vaughan to the Beaches Toronto pay runs on subway, GO and 401 schedules, from Bay Street salaries to Pearson shifts, so the online route gets explained for every city and town in the metro.

Questions people ask

Loans Toronto: payday versus installment, answered

The rules behind these answers come from the Ontario Payday Loans Act, 2008 and Consumer Protection Ontario.

How much can I borrow in Toronto on a first loan?

A first payday loan usually lands between $100 and $500 because Ontario limits it to 50% of the net paycheque it comes out of. Amounts up to $1500 follow after on time repayment. An installment loan starts at $500 and can reach $10000 when your income and credit file support the monthly payment.

How fast does the money arrive in Toronto?

Most online payday loans in Toronto fund by Interac e-transfer within a couple of hours of signing on a weekday. Completing the bank verification right after applying is what keeps it fast. Installment loans can take until the next business day.

Can I cancel a payday loan after I sign in Ontario?

Yes. Ontario's Payday Loans Act, 2008 gives you two business days after signing to cancel at no cost. Return the principal and the agreement is void. The right has to be written into the agreement itself.

I live in Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan or Markham. Does that matter?

No. A lender licensed for Ontario serves every Ontario address, and the e-transfer does not care which side of Steeles or the Etobicoke Creek you sleep on. An Ontario address that matches your ID and your bank statement is what matters, not a Toronto postal code.

What is the extended payment plan and when do I get it?

It is an Ontario rule that kicks in on your third payday loan within 63 days. The lender must offer to spread that loan across several pay periods instead of one debit, with no extra fee. If a lender refuses, that is a complaint for Consumer Protection Ontario.

Do payday loans in Toronto build credit?

Usually not, because most payday lenders do not report to the credit bureaus. If building a score is part of the goal, a small installment loan with 12 on time payments does that job, and many installment lenders do report.

Can a payday loan cover first and last on a Toronto apartment?

Almost never, because first and last on most Toronto rentals runs past the $1500 payday ceiling and past what 50% of one paycheque allows. That is an installment loan over 6 to 24 months, sized so the payment sits beside the new rent.

Does applying hurt my credit score?

Applying through Loans Toronto does not, because the match is based on the details you enter. Payday lenders mostly verify deposits rather than pull a bureau report. An installment lender may record an inquiry when you accept its offer, which has a small and short lived effect.

Before the first

Pick the loan, then see a written offer
